Rules used Codes and rates follow the GST 2.0 structure effective 22 September 2025 (slabs 0%, 5%, 18%, 40%). Value-split and conditional items are flagged on the row. This covers everyday goods and services, not the full tariff; confirm the exact line for an unusual item against the CBIC schedules.
What is an HSN or SAC code?
HSN (Harmonised System of Nomenclature) codes classify goods; SAC (Services Accounting Code) codes classify services. You put them on GST invoices and returns so a supply is taxed at the right rate.
How many digits of HSN do I need on an invoice?
From the current rules, businesses with turnover up to ₹5 crore use 4 digits (6 for B2B), and above ₹5 crore use 6 digits. Services use the 6-digit SAC. This finder shows the chapter heading; your invoicing software can expand it to the full code.
Are these the latest GST rates?
Yes — they follow the GST 2.0 structure in force from 22 September 2025, with the slabs simplified to 0%, 5%, 18% and 40%. A few items split by value (clothing and footwear at 5% up to ₹2,500, 18% above) or by condition, which we note on the row.
The rate for my exact product isn't clear.
This is a finder for common items, not the full tariff. Some headings have lines at different rates. For an unusual product, confirm against the CBIC rate schedules or ask us before you set it on your invoices.
What about alcohol and petrol?
Alcohol for human consumption, petrol, diesel and natural gas are outside GST. States tax them through VAT and excise, so they don't carry a GST rate.
