How-To Guide · Rajasthan High Court

To find a Rajasthan High Court judgment or order online, open the official High Court website or the eCourts judgment search, search by case number, party, judge, date or Act, and download the PDF for free. Claw also lets you search 30 crore+ judgments across courts by party, citation, judge, Act or free text in under 5 seconds, with verified citations. This guide shows each step on the official portals, then covers reported and unreported judgments, citations and smarter searching. Last verified October 2026.

The short answer
  • Free official route: hcraj.nic.in (Jodhpur and Jaipur benches) or judgments.ecourts.gov.in.
  • Search by: case number, party, judge, decision date, Act or free text.
  • Reported vs unreported: both can be cited. Unreported ones are cited by case number, bench and date.
  • Not certified: a downloaded PDF is for reference. Apply for a certified copy if you need one.
  • Wider search: Claw searches 30 crore+ judgments across courts in under 5 seconds, with court-ready citations.

01Where Rajasthan High Court judgments live online

The Rajasthan High Court sits at two places: the principal seat at Jodhpur and a bench at Jaipur. A judgment you need may have been passed at either place, so you must know which bench to look at. If you are unsure, search both.

There are two free official places to look.

  • The High Court website. The Judgments section of hcraj.nic.in offers search for the Jodhpur and Jaipur benches, with a High Court server option, a free text search and an eCourts server option.
  • The eCourts judgment search. The national portal at judgments.ecourts.gov.in covers High Courts and lets you search by court, judge, case number, Act, section, party name and decision date, with a free text search engine.

Both are free to use. Neither asks you to pay to read or download a judgment. For a certified copy, which you need for formal filing, there is a separate application process on the High Court website.

Looking for case status instead?

A judgment is the decided order. If you want to know when your case is listed or what stage it is at, that is case status, a different job. See how to check Rajasthan High Court case status.

02Step by step on the official portal

Follow these steps. The exact buttons may change when the site is updated, but the flow stays the same.

  1. Collect what you know. The case number and year is best. If you do not have it, the party names, the judge or the approximate date will do.
  2. Open hcraj.nic.in and go to the Judgments section. Choose the Jodhpur or Jaipur bench.
  3. Choose a search method. Use the High Court server search for structured fields, or the free text search when you only remember a few words.
  4. Enter your search. Pick the case type, enter the number and year. Or search by party name, judge name, decision date range or Act.
  5. Open the result list. Match the case number, date and bench before you open a judgment. Many cases have several orders, so check the date.
  6. Download the PDF. Save it with a clear file name, for example the case number and decision date.
  7. Try eCourts if you find nothing. Run the same search on judgments.ecourts.gov.in, choosing Rajasthan High Court as the court.

A downloaded copy from the website is for reading and reference. It is not a certified copy. If a court or authority asks for a certified copy, apply for one through the High Court.

Most people search by case number, but date range and keyword search are what help when you do not have one.

Date range search

Use a start date and an end date to list everything decided in that window. This works well when you know a case was decided in a certain month, or when you want all recent orders on a topic. Keep the range short if the list is too long. A one-month window is easy to scan.

Keyword search

Free text search looks for words inside the judgment. Use specific words, such as a section number, a rare party name or a distinct phrase, and not general words like “appeal”. Try exact phrases in quotes if the search supports it, and try spelling variants of names, since Indian names are often written in different ways.

Search by Act or section

If your question is about a statute, search by Act and section. Then narrow by date range. This is a fast way to see how the court has treated one provision in recent years.

  • Known case number: search by case type, number and year.
  • Known parties only: search by party name, then confirm with the date.
  • Known point of law: use free text or Act and section, then a date range.
  • Known judge: search by judge name and a date range.

04Reported vs unreported judgments

Not every judgment of the Rajasthan High Court is published in a law report. This difference matters when you cite.

Reported judgments are published in a law report series, such as the Rajasthan Law Weekly or national reports like AIR and SCC. They carry a report citation and usually have a headnote that sums up the point of law. Courts find them easy to verify.

Unreported judgments are decided and uploaded on the court site but not published in a report. They are still real judgments and can be relied on, but you cite them by case number, bench and date. Some courts and benches ask you to supply a copy when you rely on an unreported order.

The official portals show both. They do not tell you in a simple way which ones are reported, so a report citation often has to be found separately.

A useful habit: always check whether a judgment you rely on was later set aside, appealed to a Division Bench or taken to the Supreme Court. Official search portals do not mark that for you.

05How to cite a Rajasthan High Court judgment

A good citation lets the judge find the exact order in seconds. Include these parts.

  • Case title: the parties, for example Petitioner v. Respondent.
  • Case number and year: with the case type, for example S.B. Civil Writ Petition No. 1234/2024.
  • Court and bench: Rajasthan High Court, Jodhpur or Jaipur Bench.
  • Date of decision: the full date.
  • Report citation, if any: for example the AIR, SCC or Rajasthan Law Weekly reference.

For an unreported judgment, the case number, bench and decision date stand in for the report citation. Add the paragraph number when you quote a line. Before you file, open the downloaded PDF and confirm the title, number and date match what you typed.

A citation is only as good as the check behind it. Match the case number, bench and date to the downloaded order before you rely on it.

06Common problems and how to fix them

  • No result found. Check the bench, the year and the case type. Try the party name alone, or switch between the High Court site and eCourts.
  • Too many results. Add a date range, a judge name or a section number.
  • Name spelling does not match. Try short forms, initials and common spelling variants.
  • Order not uploaded yet. Recent orders can take time to appear online. Check again later or ask the advocate who appeared.
  • Need a formal copy. Apply for a certified copy through the High Court. A downloaded PDF is not certified.

If your work is to follow many matters, such as a lender watching defaults, searching judgments one by one is slow. See litigation portfolio monitoring for lenders and legal collections software. 07Where Claw fits

Claw is an all-in-one legaltech platform for Indian advocates, law firms, and corporate legal teams, combining AI-based case search, an AI legal assistant (Legal GPT), case management, and compliance automation across all Indian courts and tribunals.

The official portals are the right free place to start, and they are enough when you have a case number. They are harder to use when you only have a point of law, or when you need to search across many courts at once. This is where Claw helps. You can search 30 crore+ judgments across courts by party, citation, judge, Act or free text, with results in under 5 seconds and verified, court-ready citations. Search is tolerant of name spelling variants, and you can open a judgment and ask it questions instead of reading all of it.

Claw also tracks cases across 9,102 forums, with auto updates and alerts, so a judgment you read today connects to the matters you follow. Claw has a free plan for individual advocates, and paid plans for teams and enterprises.
