How to Track an NCLT or NCLAT Case Status in India (2026)
How to track a matter across the NCLT and the NCLAT in 2026: where to check status at each forum, how to read cause lists and get order copies, and how to follow a case as it moves from the tribunal to the appeal. Last verified October 2026.
How-To Guide · Tribunal Case Tracking
An insolvency or company matter rarely stays in one place. It starts before the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) and, if either side appeals, it moves to the National Company Law Appellate Tribunal (NCLAT), and sometimes on to the Supreme Court. To track it, you check status at the forum it is currently in: the NCLT on nclt.gov.in, and the NCLAT on nclat.nic.in and its e-filing portal. The hard part is that these are two separate portals, each split by bench, with their own cause lists and order pages, so following one case across both takes effort. This guide shows how to track status at each forum, how to read the cause lists and get order copies, and how to keep the whole matter in view as it moves from the tribunal to the appeal. Last verified October 2026.
- NCLT: check status on nclt.gov.in by case number, filing number or party name, after picking the bench.
- NCLAT: check status, daily orders and judgments on nclat.nic.in and the NCLAT e-filing portal, for the New Delhi or Chennai bench.
- Both forums: a matter moves from the NCLT to the NCLAT on appeal, so track it at the forum it is currently in.
- Watch the cause list: both tribunals list matters bench by bench, usually a day before the hearing, with order copies uploaded after.
01NCLT and NCLAT, and why you track both
The NCLT is the trial-level tribunal for company law and insolvency. It hears petitions under the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code, 2016, such as the start of the corporate insolvency process, and matters under the Companies Act, 2013, such as oppression and mismanagement, mergers and winding up. It works through benches in different cities, and the bench depends on where the company's registered office is.
The NCLAT is the appellate tribunal that sits above it. It hears appeals against NCLT orders, and also appeals from the Competition Commission of India and the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Board of India. It has a Principal Bench at New Delhi and a Bench at Chennai.
You track both because a single dispute usually travels between them. An order you win at the NCLT can be appealed to the NCLAT within days, and missing that the matter has moved up, or that a new date has been fixed, can cost a party the case. For how the appeal itself runs, see the NCLAT appeal procedure and how to appeal an NCLT order to the NCLAT.
02Track an NCLT case status
To check an NCLT matter, open nclt.gov.in and use the case status or case information menu. You can search in three ways:
- Case number wise: when you have the case number and year.
- Filing or diary number wise: when the case is filed but not yet allotted a case number.
- Party name wise: when you only have the company or party name.
Pick the correct bench first, such as New Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai or Bengaluru, because the search runs bench by bench. Open the matching case to see the last listing, the stage and the order history. For the full step-by-step with the status fields explained, see how to check NCLT case status, and for the different ways to find a matter, see how to search NCLT cases online.
03Track an NCLAT case status
For an appeal, open the NCLAT. The main site is nclat.nic.in, and case status, daily orders and judgments are available through the NCLAT e-filing portal.
- Case status: use the case status section on nclat.nic.in or the e-filing portal to look up an appeal by its number or by party name.
- Daily orders and judgments: the portal publishes daily orders and final judgments, which you can open by bench and date.
- Bench: choose the Principal Bench at New Delhi or the Chennai Bench, depending on where the appeal is filed.
Because an appeal to the NCLAT is time-bound, track the matter from the day the NCLT order is passed, so you know the moment the appeal is numbered and listed.
04Cause lists and order copies
Two things matter most once a case is live: when it is next listed, and what the tribunal ordered last time.
- Cause lists: both the NCLT and the NCLAT publish cause lists bench by bench, usually a day before the hearing. The cause list tells you the item number and the court, so you can be ready.
- Order copies: after each hearing, the daily order or final order is uploaded to the portal. Download it, because the order fixes the next date and records what the tribunal decided.
Missing a cause list is the common way parties lose a date. For a way to avoid scanning lists by hand every morning, see how to track next hearing dates automatically.
05The problem with two portals
Tracking one matter across the NCLT and the NCLAT is harder than it should be:
- Two separate portals: the NCLT and the NCLAT each have their own site, so you check two places for one dispute.
- Split by bench: each tribunal searches bench by bench, so if you do not know the bench you check several.
- No unified alert: neither portal pushes you a reminder when a new date is fixed or an order is uploaded, so you have to keep going back to look.
- Insolvency moves fast: IBC timelines and the moratorium under Section 14 of the IBC mean a missed update can have real consequences.
For how the insolvency process itself unfolds in these forums, see the stages of the corporate insolvency process.
06Following a case across both forums
The practical goal is to see the NCLT matter and the NCLAT appeal together, in one view, with the next date and the latest order for each. A few habits help:
- record the case number, the bench and the forum for both the tribunal and the appeal;
- check the cause list for each bench the evening before a listing; and
- save every order copy as it is uploaded, so you have the full history in order.
Doing this by hand across two portals is slow, which is why many advocates, insolvency professionals and in-house teams use a single tracker that watches both forums at once. For tribunal and arbitration matters more broadly, see how to track tribunal and arbitration cases.

An insolvency or company dispute that moves from the NCLT to the NCLAT is exactly the kind of matter that is easy to lose across two portals. Claw tracks cases, orders and hearings across 9,102 courts, benches and forums, the NCLT and the NCLAT among them, so you can follow a company by name and see the tribunal matter and the appeal in one place, with the next hearing date and each new order. You can also search 30 crore+ judgments, with Supreme Court decisions from 1950 and High Court decisions from 1990, to find how similar insolvency and company questions were decided, with results in under 5 seconds. Claw does not use your case documents to train its AI models.

09Frequently asked questions
How do I check an NCLT case status?
Open nclt.gov.in, choose case number wise, filing number wise or party name wise search, select the bench where the matter is filed, and open the case. You will see the last listing, the current stage and the order history. The bench depends on where the company's registered office is.
How do I check an NCLAT case status?
Open nclat.nic.in or the NCLAT e-filing portal and use the case status, daily orders and judgments sections. Search by appeal number or party name and pick the Principal Bench at New Delhi or the Chennai Bench. Track it early, because the time to file an NCLAT appeal is short.
What is the difference between NCLT and NCLAT?
The NCLT is the trial-level tribunal that first hears insolvency and company matters. The NCLAT is the appellate tribunal that hears appeals against NCLT orders, and also appeals from the Competition Commission of India and the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Board of India.
Where do I find NCLT and NCLAT cause lists?
Both tribunals publish cause lists bench by bench on their portals, usually a day before the hearing. The cause list shows the item number and the court, so you know when and where your matter is listed.
How do I get an order copy?
After each hearing, the daily order or final order is uploaded to the tribunal's portal. Open the daily orders or judgments section for your bench and date and download the copy, because the order fixes the next date and records the decision.
Can I follow one case across both the NCLT and the NCLAT?
Not in a single official view, because the two tribunals have separate portals, each split by bench, with no unified alert. You either check both portals yourself or use a tracker that watches the NCLT and the NCLAT together and shows the tribunal matter and the appeal in one place.
