How to Search Court Cases in Indore (District Court, High Court Bench and Tribunals)
Where to actually search a court case in Indore: the District and Sessions Court, the Madhya Pradesh High Court’s Indore Bench (not a separate High Court), and the tribunals seated in the city.
Jurisdiction Guide · Indore
If you search "Indore High Court case status" you can end up in the wrong place, because Indore does not have its own High Court. It has a District and Sessions Court, a permanent Bench of the Madhya Pradesh High Court, and a few tribunals, and each one runs its own case-status search. This guide sets out exactly which forum to search on for a case filed in Indore, and how to search it, using the official eCourts and Madhya Pradesh High Court portals.
- Indore has no High Court of its own: it has a permanent Bench of the Madhya Pradesh High Court. The principal seat is at Jabalpur.
- District-level cases: search the District and Sessions Court, Indore on eCourts (indore.dcourts.gov.in).
- High Court matters: search the MP High Court case-status system and select the Indore Bench (portal.mphc.gov.in).
- Tribunals: ITAT Indore Bench and DRT Indore run separate searches on their own portals.
- To track all of it together: Claw’s case tracking covers district courts, High Courts, and tribunals nationally in one dashboard.
01Why Indore case search is confusing
Indore is Madhya Pradesh’s largest city, and its District and Sessions Court alone handles a heavy caseload, so it is natural to expect one single "Indore court" search. There is no such single search, for a structural reason.
Indore does not have its own High Court
The Madhya Pradesh High Court has one principal seat, at Jabalpur, and two permanent Benches, at Indore and Gwalior. A case that goes up to the High Court from an Indore-district matter is heard at the Indore Bench, but it is legally the same Madhya Pradesh High Court, filed and searched through the same court system, not a separate court with its own identity.
Trial-court and High Court searches are separate systems
The District and Sessions Court, Indore runs on the eCourts district-court platform. The High Court Bench at Indore runs on the Madhya Pradesh High Court’s own case-status system. A CNR number, party name, or case number that works on one will not pull up anything on the other, because they are different databases for different levels of the court system.
Tribunals add a third layer
On top of the ordinary courts, Indore also hosts specialised tribunals, including a Bench of the Income Tax Appellate Tribunal and a Debt Recovery Tribunal. These are not part of the eCourts or High Court systems at all, and each publishes its own cause lists and orders.
No single national count by district
India does not publish a reliable, current count of pending cases specific to Indore alone that we can stand behind here. Nationally, courts across India are carrying a pendency in the crores, tracked on the National Judicial Data Grid. For how case search works across India’s districts generally, see our guide to searching court cases across Indian courts.
02The courts and tribunals that sit in Indore
For a case connected to Indore, there are four forums to know, and each has its own official search.
| Forum | What it is | What it hears | Official search |
|---|---|---|---|
| District & Sessions Court, Indore | The main trial court for Indore district, civil and criminal, with subordinate courts under it | Civil suits, criminal trials, family and other district-level matters | indore.dcourts.gov.in (eCourts) |
| MP High Court, Indore Bench | A permanent Bench of the Madhya Pradesh High Court, not a separate High Court | Writs, appeals, and other High Court matters arising from the Indore region and nearby districts | portal.mphc.gov.in (case status) |
| ITAT, Indore Bench | A Bench of the Income Tax Appellate Tribunal | Appeals against orders of the Commissioner of Income Tax (Appeals) and related direct-tax disputes | itat.gov.in |
| DRT, Indore | A Debt Recovery Tribunal | Recovery applications by banks and financial institutions under the Recovery of Debts and Bankruptcy Act | drt.gov.in / cis.drt.gov.in |
The Indore Bench was set up as a temporary Bench of the Madhya Pradesh High Court from 1 November 1956, and made a permanent Bench by a Presidential Notification dated 28 November 1968, alongside the Gwalior Bench. Its jurisdiction covers Indore and the neighbouring districts of the Malwa and Nimar region. The principal seat of the Madhya Pradesh High Court remains Jabalpur, and that is where the Chief Justice sits.
03How to search a case at the Indore District Court
The District and Sessions Court, Indore uses the standard eCourts district-court search, either on the court’s own site or the national eCourts portal.
- Go to the search page. Use indore.dcourts.gov.in directly, or services.ecourts.gov.in and select the Indore District Court complex.
- Pick a search method. The site offers separate searches by CNR number, case number, party name (petitioner or respondent), advocate name, FIR number, and act or case type.
- Search by CNR, if you have it. Every case gets a unique 16-character CNR number. Type it in exactly, with no spaces or hyphens, and it pulls up the case directly, which is the fastest and least error-prone method.
- Search by party or advocate name, if you do not. Enter the name, choose the year and the specific court complex or establishment, fill in the captcha, and search. Common names return a list, so you may need to check several entries against the case type or filing year to find the right one.
- Open the case to see full detail. The result shows case type, case number, party names, advocate on record, the act involved, and the current stage. Clicking through shows the order sheet, the next hearing date, and, where uploaded, case documents.
This search covers Indore district’s civil, criminal, and family matters at the trial-court level. It does not cover anything filed directly at the High Court Bench, or at ITAT or DRT.
04How to check a case at the MP High Court, Indore Bench
Cases pending at the Indore Bench are searched on the Madhya Pradesh High Court’s own case-status system, not the district eCourts site.
- Go to the High Court’s case-status page. Use the case status section on portal.mphc.gov.in, the Madhya Pradesh High Court’s official portal.
- Select the Indore Bench. The High Court sits at three locations, the principal seat at Jabalpur and the Benches at Indore and Gwalior, so the portal asks you to pick the correct one before it searches.
- Search by case number, CNR, party name, or advocate. As with the district court, a CNR or case number gives a direct, unambiguous result, while a party or advocate name may return a list to check through.
- Check the listing and order details. The result shows the case status, the bench hearing it, the last order, and the next listing date.
Remember that this is a search of the Madhya Pradesh High Court’s own records, filtered to the Indore Bench, not a separate High Court database. For the state-level picture, including how the Jabalpur, Indore, and Gwalior Benches relate, see our guide to searching cases at the Madhya Pradesh High Court.
An Indore case is never on one search alone. It is on the district eCourts site, the Madhya Pradesh High Court portal, or a tribunal site, depending on which forum it is actually pending before.
05ITAT and DRT: the tribunals seated in Indore
Two specialised tribunals sit in Indore, and both run outside the eCourts and High Court systems.
ITAT, Indore Bench
The Income Tax Appellate Tribunal has a Bench at Indore, hearing appeals against orders passed by the Commissioner of Income Tax (Appeals) and other direct-tax disputes from the region. Appeals are generally heard by a division bench of one judicial member and one accountant member. Case status, cause lists, and orders are published on the Tribunal’s own site, itat.gov.in, not on eCourts.
DRT, Indore
A Debt Recovery Tribunal also sits in Indore, hearing recovery applications filed by banks and financial institutions against defaulting borrowers under the Recovery of Debts and Bankruptcy Act. Case and cause-list searches run through the DRT’s own portal at drt.gov.in, separate from both the district court and the High Court Bench.
If your matter is a RERA dispute or a consumer complaint connected to Indore, those also sit outside the ordinary courts. See our guides to searching RERA cases in India and searching consumer forum cases in India.
06Where Claw fits
Claw is an all-in-one legaltech platform for Indian advocates, law firms, and corporate legal teams, combining AI-based case search, an AI legal assistant (Legal GPT), case management, and compliance automation across all Indian courts and tribunals.
For a firm or in-house team that has matters running across more than one of Indore’s forums, the manual routine above (a district eCourts search here, a High Court portal search there, a separate tribunal check elsewhere) has to be repeated every time someone wants a status update. Claw’s case tracking is built to sit on top of that: it covers 9,102-plus courts across India, including district courts, High Courts, and tribunals, so a matter pending at the Indore District Court, the MP High Court Indore Bench, ITAT Indore, or DRT Indore can be tracked from one dashboard, with automatic status updates, cause lists, and calendar and WhatsApp or email alerts, instead of checking each portal by hand.
For legal research rather than tracking, Claw’s AI-based judgement search covers all 25 High Courts and the Supreme Court, so judgments from the Madhya Pradesh High Court, including Indore Bench decisions, can be searched with verified, court-ready citations. If you need to pull court data like this programmatically rather than search it by hand, see our roundup of the best court record check APIs in India.

08Frequently asked questions
How do I check an Indore court case status?
It depends which forum the case is at. For a case at the District and Sessions Court, Indore, search on indore.dcourts.gov.in or services.ecourts.gov.in by CNR number, case number, party name, or advocate name. For a case at the High Court, search the Madhya Pradesh High Court’s case-status system on portal.mphc.gov.in and select the Indore Bench. ITAT and DRT matters are searched on their own separate portals.
Is the MP High Court Indore Bench covered?
Yes. The Indore Bench is a permanent Bench of the Madhya Pradesh High Court, established in 1968, and its case status is searched on the High Court’s own portal, portal.mphc.gov.in, by selecting the Indore Bench. It is not a separate High Court with its own website.
Can I search Indore cases by party name?
Yes, on both the district court and High Court systems. Enter the party name, select the correct court complex or Bench and the filing year, fill in the captcha, and search. Common names often return several results, so it helps to also know the case type or approximate filing date to identify the right case.
Is the main seat Jabalpur?
Yes. The Madhya Pradesh High Court’s principal seat is at Jabalpur, where the Chief Justice sits. Indore and Gwalior are permanent Benches of the same High Court, hearing matters from their respective regions, not separate courts.
What tribunals sit in Indore, and are they searched the same way as courts?
Indore hosts a Bench of the Income Tax Appellate Tribunal (ITAT) and a Debt Recovery Tribunal (DRT). Both run outside the eCourts and High Court systems, so their cases, cause lists, and orders are searched on their own portals, itat.gov.in and drt.gov.in, not on the district or High Court case-status pages.
