How to Apply for and Fix a Ration Card in Rajasthan
A ration card in Rajasthan is the document that lets a family draw subsidised foodgrain from a Fair Price Shop under the National Food Security Act (NFSA). You apply for it online through e-Mitra (opened from your SSO login) and it is tied to your Jan Aadhaar family record, with Aadhaar e-KYC needed for every member to keep the entitlement live. The state runs the scheme through the food and civil supplies department. This page explains how to apply for a new card, how to add or remove a member and correct details, how to finish e-KYC, the common problems (member not showing, e-KYC failed, shop refusing grain, portability), and what to do if a genuine entitlement is denied. Last verified October 2026.
- Where: apply through e-Mitra (opened from SSO) or at an e-Mitra kiosk, under the food department.
- Linked to: your Jan Aadhaar family record, with Aadhaar e-KYC needed for every member.
- Two card types: Antyodaya (AAY) for the poorest, Priority Household (PHH) for other eligible NFSA families.
- Portability: under One Nation One Ration Card you can draw ration from any linked Fair Price Shop in the state or country.
- If denied: portal grievance, then District Grievance Redressal Officer, then State Food Commission, then a High Court writ.
01How the Rajasthan ration system works
Rajasthan runs its ration system through the food and civil supplies department, linked to the Jan Aadhaar family record. Entitlement comes under NFSA and falls in two broad types:
| Card type | Who it is for | What it gives |
|---|---|---|
| Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY) | The poorest households | A fixed quantity of foodgrain per family each month at subsidised rates |
| Priority Household (PHH) | Other eligible NFSA households | Foodgrain per member each month at subsidised rates |
Two things keep the card working: the family being included in the NFSA list, and Aadhaar e-KYC done for every member so the biometric check passes at the shop. Fix those and the ration flows.
02Apply for a new card (step by step)
The usual route is through e-Mitra, opened from SSO, or at an e-Mitra kiosk. Broad steps:
- 1. Log in to SSO and open e-Mitra. Make sure your Jan Aadhaar family record is in place.
- 2. Find the ration card service. In e-Mitra go to Services, Avail Service, and select the new ration card application.
- 3. Fill the form. Enter the family and member details and the category you are applying under.
- 4. Upload documents. Upload identity, address and family proof as listed below.
- 5. Complete Aadhaar e-KYC. Seed every member Aadhaar so the entitlement stays live.
- 6. Verification and issue. After the local verification and NFSA inclusion, the card is generated and a Fair Price Shop is assigned.
Keep your Jan Aadhaar number and the Aadhaar of every member ready. Most Rajasthan ration problems trace back to a member not in the family record or with e-KYC pending.

03Fix, update or add a member
Most people are fixing a card, not applying fresh. The common corrections:
| What you want to fix | How it is done |
|---|---|
| Add a newborn or new member | Add the member in the Jan Aadhaar family record, do Aadhaar e-KYC, then link to the ration card |
| Remove a member (death, marriage, shifted out) | Update the family record and apply to delete the member from the card |
| Correct name, age or Aadhaar mismatch | Correct the Jan Aadhaar or Aadhaar record first, then the ration record will match |
| Change Fair Price Shop | Apply to port the card to another shop on the food department portal |
| Split or surrender a card | Apply to split the family into two cards or surrender a duplicate or ineligible card |
Corrections usually start in the Jan Aadhaar or Aadhaar record, because the ration record reads from them. Fixing only the ration side will not hold if the base record is wrong.
04Common problems and how to clear them
- Member added but not on the card. The linkage or verification is pending; check the application status and raise it with the local supply office.
- e-KYC failed. Usually an Aadhaar demographic mismatch (name, date of birth, gender). Fix it at an Aadhaar centre, then retry e-KYC.
- Shop says "no ration this month". Ask the reason on the ePOS machine: e-KYC pending, Aadhaar not seeded, or stock issue. A dealer cannot refuse a valid entitlement, and portability (One Nation One Ration Card) lets you draw from another shop.
- Wrong category. AAY shown where PHH is due, or the reverse, is corrected through the category update.
- Card removed in a de-duplication drive. If you are genuinely eligible and were removed by mistake, use the grievance route below.
05If your entitlement is wrongly denied
A ration entitlement under NFSA is a legal right. The escalation ladder is:
- Portal grievance and the state helpline. Lodge a written complaint with the application or card number and keep the complaint ID.
- District Supply Officer or Collector. The district food and supply office handles dealer refusal, wrong deletion and category errors.
- District Grievance Redressal Officer (DGRO). NFSA requires a DGRO in each district to decide food entitlement complaints.
- State Food Commission. NFSA requires a State Food Commission that hears appeals against the DGRO and can direct relief.
If the statutory route stalls or your right is plainly being denied, the final remedy is a writ petition in the Rajasthan High Court under Article 226.
06If it becomes a legal dispute
Claw is an all-in-one legaltech platform for Indian advocates, law firms, and corporate legal teams, combining AI-based case search, an AI legal assistant (Legal GPT), case management, and compliance automation across all Indian courts and tribunals.
Most ration problems are solved at e-Mitra or the supply office. But when a genuine entitlement is denied and you have to move the State Food Commission or file a writ in the Rajasthan High Court, there is a case number and a forum, and that is where Claw helps. You can create a FREE Claw account and track the matter across the court or tribunal that hears it, with hearing dates and order updates in one place. Claw covers 9,102 courts, benches and forums, so a writ petition or any later litigation has a real tracking home. You can also search 30 crore+ judgments (Supreme Court decisions from 1950 and High Court decisions from 1990) to see how courts have treated wrongful denial of food entitlement, with results in under 5 seconds, and Claw does not train its AI models on your documents. This is general legal information and case tracking, not legal advice on your specific case, and a case search that shows nothing only means nothing was found on the forums and date searched.
To see how similar entitlement disputes were decided, run a case search across Indian courts by subject or party name. If a dealer gives short weight or poor quality grain, that can also be a deficiency in service complaint.

08Frequently asked questions
How do I apply for a ration card in Rajasthan?
Apply online through e-Mitra (opened from your SSO login) or at an e-Mitra kiosk. Make sure your Jan Aadhaar family record is in place, fill the ration card form, upload identity, address and family proof, complete Aadhaar e-KYC for every member, and after verification and NFSA inclusion the card is generated with a Fair Price Shop assigned.
Why is Aadhaar e-KYC needed for the ration card?
e-KYC seeds every member Aadhaar with the ration record so the biometric check passes at the Fair Price Shop and keeps the entitlement live. Most "no ration" problems at the shop are an e-KYC that is pending or an Aadhaar that is not seeded.
How do I add a new member or newborn?
Add the person to your Jan Aadhaar family record first, complete Aadhaar e-KYC (follow the child Aadhaar rules for an infant), then apply to link the member to the ration card. The ration record reads from the family record, so fix that first.
The shop refused my ration. What are my rights?
A Fair Price Shop dealer cannot refuse a valid entitlement. Ask for the reason shown on the ePOS machine, use portability to draw from another shop if needed, and lodge a grievance with your card number. Persistent refusal can be escalated to the District Supply Officer and the grievance officers.
My card was deleted but I am still eligible. How do I restore it?
Lodge a portal grievance and complain to the District Supply Officer with your old card and Jan Aadhaar details. If it is not restored, escalate to the District Grievance Redressal Officer and the State Food Commission under NFSA, and in a clear case file a writ in the Rajasthan High Court.
Can I use my Rajasthan ration card in another state?
Yes. Under One Nation One Ration Card a Rajasthan card holder can draw the entitlement from any linked Fair Price Shop in Rajasthan or other states, as long as Aadhaar e-KYC is done and the biometric authentication works at the shop.
