EPF Forms 10C and 19: Withdrawal and Pension (2026)

When you leave a job and want your EPF money, two forms do two different jobs. Form 19 is the claim for the final settlement of your provident fund balance, the PF corpus built from your and your employer contribution. Form 10C is the claim on the pension side, the Employees Pension Scheme (EPS-95) part, and it gives you either a withdrawal benefit (if your service is under 10 years) or a scheme certificate that carries your pension service forward to your next job. If you have more than 10 years of service you do not use Form 10C to withdraw the pension; you claim a monthly pension through Form 10D instead. This page explains what each form is for, when to use Form 19, Form 10C or Form 10D, the conditions and the KYC you need, how to file them online on the EPFO Unified Member Portal, how long settlement takes, the common reasons a claim is rejected, and the appeal route to the EPF Appellate Tribunal if a claim is wrongly rejected. Last verified October 2026.

The short answer
  • Form 19: final settlement of the provident fund balance when you leave a job.
  • Form 10C: the EPS withdrawal benefit or a scheme certificate, for service under 10 years.
  • Form 10D: monthly pension, for service of 10 years or more at pension age.
  • Needs: an activated UAN, verified KYC (Aadhaar, bank, PAN) and the exit date recorded.
  • If rejected: EPFiGMS grievance, then the EPF Appellate Tribunal and a High Court writ; Claw can track it.

01Form 19, Form 10C and Form 10D

The three forms split by what you are claiming:

FormWhat it claimsWhen to use it
Form 19Final settlement of the PF balanceWhen you leave service and want the provident fund money out
Form 10CEPS withdrawal benefit or scheme certificateService under 10 years: take the pension-side benefit or keep a scheme certificate
Form 10DMonthly pensionService of 10 years or more and you have reached pension age

A common mistake is to think Form 10C pays out your pension corpus like the PF. It does not: with 10 years or more of service, the pension is paid monthly through Form 10D, and the scheme certificate option under Form 10C lets you protect your service if you plan to work again.

02Before you file: UAN and KYC

Online claims only work if your member account is in order:

  • Your UAN (Universal Account Number) must be activated.
  • Your KYC must be seeded and verified: Aadhaar linked and verified, a bank account with the correct IFSC, and PAN where it applies.
  • Your exit date from the last employer must be updated in the system; without it, a final settlement claim is blocked.
  • Your name, date of birth and other details must match across Aadhaar and the EPFO record, because a mismatch is the top reason claims fail.

03Step by step on the EPFO portal

The flow on the EPFO Unified Member Portal is:

  • 1. Log in with your UAN and password.
  • 2. Check KYC and service under the Manage and View tabs, and confirm the exit date is recorded.
  • 3. Open Online Services, Claim (Form 31, 19, 10C and 10D). Verify the last four digits of your bank account.
  • 4. Pick the claim. Choose "Only PF Withdrawal (Form 19)", and where eligible "Only Pension Withdrawal (Form 10C)". With 10 years or more, the pension-withdrawal option is not offered and you claim pension through Form 10D.
  • 5. Submit with the Aadhaar OTP. The claim is signed with the OTP sent to your Aadhaar-linked mobile.

You can track the claim status under Online Services, Track Claim Status. The money is credited to the verified bank account.

04Timeline and tax

A clean online claim is usually settled within a few weeks, often around 20 days, though it can take longer if the office raises a query. On tax:

  • If your continuous service is five years or more, the PF withdrawal is generally tax free.
  • If you withdraw before five years of continuous service, the withdrawal can be taxable, and TDS may be deducted, unless the amount is small or you give the right declaration.

05Common reasons a claim is rejected

Most rejections are data problems and are fixable:

  • Name, date of birth or father name does not match between Aadhaar and the EPFO record.
  • KYC not verified, or the bank IFSC is wrong or the account closed.
  • Exit date not updated by the employer, so a final settlement is blocked.
  • Choosing Form 10C withdrawal when service is 10 years or more, where only a monthly pension (Form 10D) is due.
  • Overlapping or unmerged UANs from different jobs.

Fix the data and re-submit. If the office rejects a claim you believe is valid on the merits, you can escalate and appeal, explained next.

06If a claim is wrongly rejected: the appeal route

If a Form 19 or Form 10C claim is rejected and you have fixed the data but the EPFO still refuses, or it disputes your service or the amount, that is a decision under the Employees Provident Funds and Miscellaneous Provisions Act. Start with the EPFO grievance system (the EPFiGMS portal) to get a written reason. If that does not resolve it, the Act provides for an appeal to the Employees Provident Fund Appellate Tribunal, and from there, on a question of law, to the High Court by writ.

If a rejected PF or pension claim turns into an appeal before the EPF Appellate Tribunal or a writ in the High Court, you can create a FREE Claw account and track that matter across the forum that hears it. Claw covers 9,102 courts, benches and forums in India, so there is a real tracking home for the orders and next dates. Judgment search spans 30 crore+ judgments, with Supreme Court decisions from 1950 and High Court decisions from 1990, and results return in under 5 seconds, which helps you or your lawyer see how similar provident-fund claim disputes were decided. Claw does not train its AI models on your documents. This is general information and not legal advice, and a contested claim still needs a lawyer for the arguments.

To see what is already filed in a forum, you can run a case search across Indian courts by party name. For the strict time limit on filing an appeal, see the limitation period for filing an appeal.

08Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between Form 19 and Form 10C?

Form 19 claims the final settlement of your provident fund balance. Form 10C claims the pension-side benefit under EPS-95: either a withdrawal benefit if your service is under 10 years, or a scheme certificate that carries your pension service forward to your next job.

Can I withdraw my pension through Form 10C after 10 years of service?

No. With 10 years or more of eligible service you are entitled to a monthly pension, claimed through Form 10D at pension age, not a pension withdrawal through Form 10C. The portal will not offer the 10C withdrawal option once your service crosses 10 years.

How do I file these forms online?

Log in to the EPFO Unified Member Portal with your UAN, confirm your KYC and exit date, open Online Services and the Claim form, verify your bank account, choose Form 19 and where eligible Form 10C, and submit with the OTP sent to your Aadhaar-linked mobile. Track the status under Track Claim Status.

How long does settlement take?

A clean online claim is usually settled within a few weeks, often around 20 days, unless the office raises a query. PF withdrawal after five years of continuous service is generally tax free; an earlier withdrawal can attract tax and TDS unless the amount is small or you give the right declaration.

What if my claim is wrongly rejected?

Fix any data mismatch and re-submit first. If the EPFO still refuses a valid claim, use the EPFiGMS grievance system for a written reason, then appeal to the Employees Provident Fund Appellate Tribunal, and on a question of law by writ to the High Court. Claw can track that matter across the forum that hears it.
