To avoid re-checking by hand, you can also track the matter in Claw by party name, with hearing and order alerts. This guide shows each step. Last verified: October 2026.

01Where to check Chhattisgarh High Court case status
There are two official places to look. Both are free to use.
- eCourts High Court Services: the national portal at hcservices.ecourts.gov.in. It lists the High Court of Chhattisgarh in its High Court drop-down, next to the other High Courts.
- The court’s own website: highcourt.cg.gov.in, where the High Court publishes its notices, cause lists and judgments.
For a plain status lookup, most people use the eCourts portal, because it has all six search methods in one place.
Keep the right tool for the job
The official portals show status one case at a time. They do not send you alerts. If you handle many matters, see how one litigation registry workflow keeps all your cases in one place.
02Step-by-step: check status on the official portal
Follow these steps on the eCourts High Court Services portal.
- Open hcservices.ecourts.gov.in in your browser.
- Click Case Status on the home page.
- In the High Court drop-down, select High Court of Chhattisgarh.
- Select the bench. Chhattisgarh sits at its principal seat in Bilaspur, so choose that if the portal asks.
- Pick your search method tab: Case Number, CNR Number, Party Name, Advocate, FIR Number or Filing Number.
- Fill in the fields. For a case number, give the case type, number and year.
- Type the captcha shown on screen and click Go.
- From the result list, click View next to your case to see the full status page.
The status page shows the next hearing date, the stage, the judge or bench, and the orders passed so far.
03The six ways to search a case
Use the method that matches what you already have in hand.
| Method | What you enter | Best when |
|---|---|---|
| Case number | Case type, number and year (for example WPC, number, year) | You have the court-assigned number from the order or notice |
| CNR number | The 16-character CNR, without hyphens or spaces | You have the CNR; it is the most exact search |
| Party name | Petitioner or respondent name, minimum 3 characters, plus year | You know the parties but not the number |
| Advocate name | Advocate name or bar registration number | You want all matters for one advocate |
| FIR number | Police station, FIR number and year | A criminal matter such as a bail or quashing petition |
| Filing number | Filing number and year | The case was just filed and has no registration number yet |
If the case number search fails, try the CNR. If you have neither, try the party name with fewer words and a spelling variation.
04Chhattisgarh High Court: seat and jurisdiction
The High Court of Chhattisgarh sits at Bilaspur and was established in 2000, when Chhattisgarh was created from Madhya Pradesh. Its territorial jurisdiction is the state of Chhattisgarh.
That matters when you search. Matters from districts such as Raipur, Durg, Bastar and Surguja come up to Bilaspur, so you select the same High Court whichever district your case began in. Cases that started in a district court are tracked on the district court portal until they reach the High Court on appeal or revision.
Typical case types filed here include writ petitions (WPC for civil writs, WPCR for criminal writs), criminal appeals, miscellaneous criminal cases such as bail applications, and first and second appeals.
05What the status words mean
The status page uses short words. Here is what they mean in plain terms.
| Status | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Pending | The case is still alive and has not been finally decided. |
| Disposed | The court has finally decided the case. The final order or judgment is available. |
| Listed | The case is on the cause list for a given date and bench. |
| For orders | Arguments are over or the point is narrow, and the court will pass an order on the listed date. |
| Reserved | Arguments are heard and the judgment is kept for a later date, with no date fixed in advance. |
Remember that “listed” does not mean the case will be heard. Courts often cannot reach every listed matter in a day.
06Common problems and fixes
- No record found: check the case type and year. A wrong year is the most common cause.
- Party name gives too many results: add the year, or use the advocate or CNR search instead.
- Status looks old: the portal updates after the court uploads the day’s data. Check the order sheet on the court website if the date matters for a deadline.
- Captcha fails: refresh the captcha and retype it. The portal can also be slow at peak hours.
If your case turns on a limitation or filing date, check the date rules in the statutory deadline master table rather than relying on the status page alone.
