01How to check SAT case status, step by step
The Securities Appellate Tribunal (SAT) is a statutory tribunal under Section 15K of the SEBI Act, 1992. It hears appeals against orders of SEBI, and also appeals in IRDAI and PFRDA matters. It is not on the eCourts or NJDG network, so it has its own case status page. The official source is satweb.sat.gov.in/case-status, and the tribunal’s main site is sat.gov.in. Treat these as the primary source for every status.
Check by appeal number
- Open the SAT case status page at satweb.sat.gov.in/case-status.
- Select the bench (Mumbai) and the appeal type (SEBI, IRDAI or PFRDA).
- Enter the appeal number and the appeal year.
- Type the captcha shown on the page.
- Submit, then open the result to see the parties, the next date and the current status.
Check by party name
- On the same page, use the party name option.
- Enter the name of the appellant or respondent as it appears in the appeal, along with the year.
- Type the captcha and submit.
- Pick the right matter from the list. Many parties share similar names, so confirm using the year and the appeal number.
Check by AL number
An AL number is given when an appeal is first lodged, before it gets a formal appeal number. Use the AL number and AL year option on the portal for such matters. Once the appeal is numbered, switch to the appeal number.

04What each status means
The status shown for a SAT matter can look cryptic. Here is what the common words mean.

| Listed | The matter is on the cause list for a given date. Check the cause list for the court hall and time. |
| For orders | Arguments are over or a point is argued, and the bench will pass an order on that date. |
| Reserved | The bench has heard the matter and kept its decision aside. The order will come on a later date. |
| Disposed | The appeal is finally decided, withdrawn or dismissed. Look in the orders section for the final order. |
A matter marked pending is not necessarily listed soon. Always read the next date field, and then confirm it on the cause list.
05SAT cause list and next hearing date
Case status tells you where a matter stands. The cause list tells you whether it is actually being heard on a given day. The daily SAT cause list is published on the official SAT website at satweb.sat.gov.in. Look for your appeal number or party name in the list for the date you care about.
- Check the cause list the evening before. Matters can be added at short notice, and the status page may not show it yet.
- Read the orders section after a hearing. Stay orders, interim directions and final orders are published there.

In SEBI, IRDAI and PFRDA matters, a missed hearing can mean a lost stay or a lapsed interim relief, so cause list checks are worth the habit.
06If your search shows no result
- Wrong appeal type. SEBI matters and IRDAI or PFRDA matters are listed separately.
- Wrong year. Use the year the appeal was filed, not the year of the order appealed against.
- AL number used after numbering. Once an appeal number is given, search by that number.
- Spelling of the party name. Try a shorter part of the name.
- Portal down or slow. Government portals can be unavailable at times. Try again later and keep a copy of the order.
