Case Status Guide · NCLT

To check NCLT case status, go to nclt.gov.in, follow the Case Status link to the e-filing portal, pick the bench, and search by party or company name, case number or filing number. You can also check NCLT status by party name across every bench in Claw with a free account. Each method is below, step by step.

Key facts about NCLT case status
  • Official source: nclt.gov.in, which links to the NCLT e-filing portal for case status (last verified 6 October 2026).
  • Three main methods: party or company name, case number, and filing number, always with the bench selected.
  • 16 locations: New Delhi (Principal Bench) plus 15 other benches. Search one bench at a time on the official portal.
  • Case number format: Type/Number/Bench/Year, for example IB/456/MB/2024.
  • Claw: free account, then search by party name or case number across every bench, with alerts.

01Check NCLT case status on the official portal

The National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) hears insolvency (IBC), company law, merger and oppression matters across its benches. The official source for case status is the NCLT website at nclt.gov.in, which sends you to the NCLT e-filing portal. The e-filing portal also has a public case history search at efiling.nclt.gov.in. This page is a layer above that portal: it tells you what to enter and what the result means. Always treat the official portal as the primary record.

Steps

  1. Open nclt.gov.in and click the Case Status link. This opens the NCLT e-filing portal.
  2. Open the Search Case History page. You can use it without logging in.
  3. Select the bench (zonal bench) where the matter is filed.
  4. Choose how to search: party or company name (best when you only know who is involved), case number with case type and year, or filing number.
  5. Type the details exactly as filed, enter the captcha, and submit.
  6. Open the matching row. You will see the parties, advocates, current status, next date of hearing and the coram.

Start with the company name

In insolvency work you usually know the corporate debtor, not the case number. Searching by company name is the fastest start. Try the full name first, then a shorter form, because the registry may have entered the name differently from how it is written on the CIN record.

02Methods: how to check NCLT status by case number, party name or bench

Use whichever detail you already have. All methods work best when you also pick the right bench.

MethodWhat you needWhere to enter itNotes
By party or company namePetitioner or respondent name, or the corporate debtor name, and the benchSearch Case History on efiling.nclt.gov.in, party name optionBest first try for IBC matters. Spelling must be close to how the registry entered it. Search petitioner and respondent separately.
By case numberCase type (IB, CA, CP, MA, IA), number, year, and benchSearch Case History, case number optionFastest when you have it. Example format IB/456/MB/2024. The bench must be correct.
By filing numberThe filing number given at e-filing, and the benchSearch Case History, filing number optionUseful for a fresh matter that has no case number yet.
By benchThe bench and, if possible, a case type or yearSelect the zonal bench first in every searchThe portal searches one bench at a time. Cause lists are also published bench wise.
By CIN or advocateCompany CIN, or advocate nameSearch Case History, where these fields are offeredCIN avoids name spelling mismatches. Availability can differ by bench.

NCLT does not use CNR numbers. If you have a CNR, that belongs to a High Court or district court. See how to find a case by CNR number for those.

Can I check by diary number?

NCLT matters are tracked by filing number and then by case number once registered. There is no separate diary number system to search at the NCLT, so use the filing number for new matters.

03NCLT benches and cities: where to search

The NCLT sits at the Principal Bench in New Delhi and at benches in other cities. You pick the bench inside the search, so one method covers every city. The table below answers the usual city searches in one place.

Bench / cityCase code (typical)How to check status
New Delhi (Principal Bench)NDSelect New Delhi in Search Case History. This bench has several courts, so check the court number in the result.
AhmedabadAHMSelect Ahmedabad, then search by party name or case number.
Allahabad (Prayagraj)ALDSelect Allahabad, then search by party name or case number.
AmaravatiAMRSelect Amaravati. Matters for Andhra Pradesh were moved here from the Hyderabad bench, so older matters may sit at Hyderabad.
BengaluruBLRSelect Bengaluru (also written Bangalore) and search.

ChennaiCHESelect Chennai and search.

Each bench decides matters for companies whose registered office falls in its territory. If you are not sure which bench holds a matter, check the registered office state of the company, or search the company name on more than one bench. A single cross-bench search is what Claw adds, covered below.

04How to read an NCLT case number

A case number such as IB/456/MB/2024 tells you four things: the matter type (IB), the serial number (456), the bench (Mumbai), and the year (2024). Get all four right for a precise search.

  • IB: insolvency petitions under the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code, 2016.
  • CA / CP: company applications and company petitions, such as mergers, oppression and mismanagement, or winding up.
  • MA / IA: miscellaneous and interlocutory applications filed inside a main matter.

Many people find an IA number first, because it appears in orders. Remember that an IA belongs to a main IB or CP, so the main case may show a different number.

05What NCLT case status words mean

These are the status words you will see, in plain English.

StatusWhat it means
PendingThe matter is still before the bench and has not been finally decided.
DisposedThe matter is finished. The bench has passed a final order, or the case was withdrawn or dismissed.
ListedThe matter has been put on the cause list for a hearing on a given date.
For ordersArguments are done or the bench is passing an order on that date. The order may be pronounced or uploaded soon after.
ReservedThe bench has heard the matter and kept its order for later. No date may be fixed for the order.
AdjournedThe hearing was moved to a new date, shown as the next date of hearing.

The status on the portal is only as fresh as the registry update. A matter heard today may still show the old date until the order is uploaded.

06Cause list and next hearing date

The next date of hearing is shown in the case status result. To see what is listed on a given day, use the bench wise cause list on nclt.gov.in. Cause lists are usually published the day before and are PDFs, so you can search for the party name or case number inside the file.

  1. On nclt.gov.in, open the cause list section for your bench.
  2. Pick the date and the court number.
  3. Open the PDF and search for the party name or case number.

If you track many matters, checking every bench list by hand each evening is slow. That is where hearing alerts help.

07NCLAT: checking the appeal after an NCLT order

An NCLT order can be appealed to the National Company Law Appellate Tribunal (NCLAT). NCLAT has its own site, nclat.nic.in, and its own case numbers, so the same dispute carries a different number there. People search "nclat case history" when they want the appeal record. Use the NCLAT case status or display board pages and search by appeal number or party name. For the NCLT order itself, keep the NCLT case number handy.

08When the portal does not show your case

  • No result: check the bench, the case type and the year. A wrong bench is the most common reason.
  • Name does not match: try a shorter name, the old company name, or search the other side of the case. Use the CIN if the field is offered.
  • Matter just filed: it may not be registered yet. Use the filing number from e-filing, or ask the registry.
  • Portal slow or down: try again later. For insolvency matters the IBBI website also publishes useful public information.
  • Order not uploaded: get a certified copy from the registry, or ask your advocate on record.

09Check it in one step with Claw

Claw is an all-in-one legaltech platform for Indian advocates, law firms, and corporate legal teams, combining AI-based case search, an AI legal assistant (Legal GPT), case management, and compliance automation across all Indian courts and tribunals.

The official portal searches one bench at a time. If you want one search instead, create a free Claw account and search NCLT (National Company Law Tribunal) by party name or case number across every bench, with hearing and order alerts. You do need to sign up first, and sign up is free.

  • One search, every bench: no need to guess whether the matter is at Mumbai, New Delhi or Chennai.
  • Party or company name, or case number: the same two methods you would use on the official portal.
  • Alerts: get hearing date and order alerts so you do not check bench lists every evening.
  • Wide coverage: Claw covers 9,102 courts, benches and forums, and over 30 crore judgements, with results in under 5 seconds.

Claw does not replace the official record. For a certified status or an order copy, the NCLT portal and registry remain the source. Claw is the faster way to find and track the matter first.

10Frequently asked questions

Can I check NCLT case status by party name?

Yes. On the NCLT e-filing portal, open Search Case History, select the bench, and choose the party name option. Enter the petitioner, respondent or company name. You can also search by party name across every bench in Claw after you create a free account.

Can I check NCLT case status by case number?

Can I check NCLT status by diary number or filing number?

NCLT uses a filing number for new matters and a case number after registration. Use the filing number option for a fresh filing. There is no separate diary number search at the NCLT.

Which is the official NCLT case status portal?

Is checking NCLT case status free?

Yes, searching case history on the official NCLT portal is free. In Claw, you create a free account first and then search by party name or case number across every bench.

It depends on the bench registry. Hearing dates and orders are normally updated after each hearing, but uploads can lag by a day or more. Check the cause list for the latest listing and confirm with the registry for urgent matters.

How many NCLT benches are there?

There are 16 locations: New Delhi (Principal Bench), Ahmedabad, Allahabad, Amaravati, Bengaluru, Chandigarh, Chennai, Cuttack, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Indore, Jaipur, Jabalpur, Kochi, Kolkata and Mumbai. Please confirm on nclt.gov.in, as benches can be added.

What is the difference between NCLT and NCLAT case status?

NCLT is the first tribunal for company and insolvency matters. NCLAT hears appeals against NCLT orders and has its own site and case numbers. An appealed matter has one number at each.
