03What you need before you search

Before you sit down to check a case, gather whichever of these you have. The more specific your reference, the faster and more reliable the result.

• CNR number: the most reliable single reference, unique to the case across the entire eCourts network.
• Case type, number, and year: for example a writ petition, criminal appeal, or civil revision number, which the registry assigns on filing.
• Filing number and year: useful in the gap between filing and formal registration, when a case number has not yet been assigned.
• Party name and, where relevant, FIR number with police station and year: fallback options when you have no case reference at all.

Spelling matters more than most people expect. Names transliterated from Hindi or local languages can appear in more than one form in the record, so if a name search returns nothing, try common variations before concluding the case is not on the system.

04Cause lists, orders and certified copies

Case status is only the starting point. Two related tasks come up just as often for anyone appearing before the Chhattisgarh High Court.
